The S. R. Butler High School Class of 1955 was made up of a large number of close friends who have either stayed in the area after graduation or have returned to Huntsville, Alabama, after retirement. Occupations and interests cover a broad spectrum. Most were from poor, or relatively poor families who made a hard living working in the textile mills and other enterprises paying at the bottom of the economic ladder. However, a large number of the children of these hardworking fathers and mothers, by adopting the same work ethic, went on to middle class or upper middle class occupations and lives. But, most never forgot where they came from or failed to recognize the struggle of others.
